The planned – and long-awaited – £125million dualling of the A21 single-carriageaway between Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells was halted by the new Government last week.

The traffic black spot is stifling, not just to the movement of traffic but to the local economy, at a time when our West Kent towns need all the help they can get to stay strong through this era of austerity.

The nearly-completed new hospital at Pembury will also be affected, with ambulances at risk of traffic jams with the rest of us, slowing down the time for injured and ill patients to reach treatment.

The coalition announced the work would be halted to save money, and we will find out in Autumn if the scheme will be scrapped altogether.

The Don't Kill the A21 campaign has been launched to send a message to the Government. Read more in the Sevenoaks Chronicle or Tonbridge Courier and sign the petition here: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/a21/
