The Gingseng Restaurant on Bank Street is fantastic. Sevenoaks is lucky to have a high quality, and thoroughly tasty Chinese restaurant. It has excellent dishes from starters to dessert; their mains are to die for. They have all your favourites from Aromatic duck to Cantonese Fish Fillet. Love this place!

I was really excited about trying Ginseng for the first time. It's highly recommended by people I trust and with a husband who loves Chinese food, I thought this would be a real treat for our four-times-a-year (three kids!!!) night out.
We booked a table for 9pm on Friday, and when we got there it was very busy (a good sign, really). But unfortunately our table was in the main walkway on the top floor, next to the toilets, so we were constantly being bashed into and pushed past.
Service was slow (probably because it was so busy and there was a very rowdy table demanding a lot of the waiting staff's time) and we had to chase up our drinks. One of the waitresses that served us was lovely. The other was, well, if I'm being charitable, she was brisk. At times though, it felt rather rude.
The Ginseng platter (starter) was good, it had the ideal mix of all our favourites. Unfortunately our main dishes arrived without the noodles, so they had to sit there getting cold while we waited for the noodles. The chilli shredded beef was good, as was the egg fried rice. The noodles were okay but the Kung Po Chicken was a bit disappointing.
The meal came in pretty cheap as we'd not opted for a bottle of wine but had beer and G&T instead, so it was definitely a more budget option than Sun Do, and was more modern looking in terms of décor but overall a bit disappointing.
It's got such great reviews that I definitely assume it was an off night, but little things like a dirty toilet cubicle did shake my confidence in a return visit. A shame.
i've been going here for the last few years.. they do a mean hot & sour soup & my favourite dish is the black bean beef on a sizzling platter.. the price is also reasonable.. the staff & owner are always really friendly.. they have al fresco dining when the weather permits..
