Great news for Sevenoaks book lovers! eBooks and eAudiobooks are now available to download free of charge from the Kent Libraries website.

It means that around 700 books will be available at the touch of a button to anyone with a Kent library card, wherever they can access a computer, anywhere in the world.

The new eBooks will be available through the existing online catalogue and library members can download them onto their PC, Mac, smartphone, eReader or MP3 player.

Extra convenience and easier access are the two major benefits of this new service.  For those who find it difficult to physically visit a library, hundreds of books will now be available without leaving the house and some specialist texts will now be more easily available to library members across the county.

Commuters can enjoy having an eBook on their phone instead of carrying a copy around and holidaymakers can have several books with them on their eReader without weighing down luggage.  The new service also means that travel guides and phrase books in the collection can be downloaded either before travelling or from anywhere in the world.

Kent County Council Cabinet Member for Community Services, Mike Hill welcomed the new service.  He said:

“The way we access our information is changing.  We need to adapt to and embrace digital technology to deliver the best possible library service to Kent residents.

“Offering eBooks is a fundamental part of ensuring that libraries continue to be relevant and valuable for our communities."

The new service is initially being introduced as a pilot project and users will be asked to give their feedback, so the collection of titles can be developed to meet the needs of Kent residents.

What do you think of the scheme? Will you use it? Do you like ebooks?
