Sevenoaks High Street

Hi,
-
15 empty units
I moved to Knatts Valley, Sevenoaks from the heart of rural Devon last November and over the last year I have been shocked by the number of empty retail units appearing in the high street. I am trying to get together with concerned local businesses, town and district councillors and local residents to see if there is anything we can do to re-energise the high street.

Good luck with the meeting next week. How wonderful that the local community have grabbed hold of this issue with both hands and are actively trying to do something positive to make a real change. I can't attend the meeting, but I'm very much looking forward to hearing how it went - will you post details here afterwards please?

ReportI would love it if Gap expanded to women and men's clothes, and a Jack Wills would be super!

ReportI'm sure you are right that during the week the town is a mostly man free zone so it doesn't surprise me that most shops concentrate on ladies but having said that a lot of stores these days are unisex. Why not sell for both men and women? We have a GAP kids, why not men and women's clothes too? White Stuff and Fat Face appear to do quite well so I'm sure Jack Wills would go down well with the kids and funkier parents. Men don't only wear suits and purple jumpers as the smart men's store by the wishing well in the centre of town appears to think.

ReportThat's a really good point, actually, Bobajobbob, it doesn't cater for men very well but then in terms of footfall, it must be mainly women around during the day? It certainly seems like it... My husband's said much the same, there's nothing for him apart from food places that we both like.
I wonder if the sparkling new Waitrose will reinvigorate anything?
