Comedy at The Stag

The Outside the Box Comedy Club night at the Stag is gaining increasing weight on the comedy circuit, ranked as the UK's 4th Best Comedy Venue by the Guardian. It is well worth a visit if you are looking for a varied night of comedy entertainment.

Last weeks lineup (Thurs 15th July) was made up of Greg Davies - the unnaturally tall star from TV's "Inbetweeners", Alex Zane - Einstein haired TV host, and Michael "Jones" Winslow - Star of the "Police Academy" films and Human sound effect machine! As always the night was hosted by the hilarious Maff Brown.

So, what was the result of the nights events? Gregg Davies was a hysterical start to the evening with an anecdotal trip through his life - minus the important events and focusing on the gems that hold them all together. Alex Zanes comic meandering seemed to seriously miss the mark with all but a few hardcore followers. Then 80's & 90's legend Michael Winslow stepped up. With an amazing display of diverse vocal sound effects he performed excerpts from Star Wars, the Sound of Music and the Self Service tills at Tesco. While he must be a nightmare to live with, he was a pleasure to watch! Although the consensus of opinion was he was a little too American and dragged out for a lot of the Sevenoaks audience - Many of whom were confused by the references to some Rappers and Cheech & Chong. This was addressed by Maff Browns's observation that the following of American Rap and Gangster culture in Sevenoaks was probably quite limited!

For those that felt Maff's comic interjections were not enough to rehydrate their comedy pallet, he will be taking a more prominent seat in September when he performs his full show as part of the main comedy lineup.
