If you’re lucky enough to be sporting a sunny glow right now, you’ll probably be keen to stay golden as long as possible.

But as we all know it’s pretty unhealthy to try to maintain a real suntan all year round, but there are ways to enjoy the confidence boost of a tan, without risking your health.

The celeb favourite

St Tropez has been a byword for celebrity tan for years now, and Lotus Health & Beauty in the High Street offer a wide range of face and body treatments. Free consultations are available and as the brand is best of breed, the coverage is renowned for being even and long-lasting.

To benefit from the best possible tan, exfoliate your body fully before treatment. Alternatively, you can book a one-hour ‘sun initiation’ for £45, where you’ll be exfoliated with a peeling balm and then applied with tanning hydra cream.

St Tropez cream treatments cost £30 for legs, £35 for upper body and £50 for a full-body cream. To book, call 01732 740222.

Spray tan at a Sevenoaks salon

Spray tanning is exactly what you’d imagine. You’re coated top to toe with a tanning lotion, using a special spray to ensure even coverage. The actual tan emerges a couple of hours after your skin is sprayed.

Sevenoaks Beauty Clinic on Dartford Road near the Vine cricket ground have fully trained beauticians and a ‘book five and get a sixth free’ deal. One spray tan costs £38 and takes around 30 minutes. To book call 01732 779481.

Fake bake

This organic treatment originates in the US but is increasingly popular in Britain as it is longer-lasting than many self-tan treatments (lasting up to a week) and is completely natural.

The tan produced is deep and even, and uses naturally derived tanning agents, ‘DHA and Erythulose’.

Indulge Beauty Therapy in London Road offer Fake Bake treatments from £25 (legs only). A half-body costs £35 and a full body and face treatment is £53. To book, call 01732 450200.

Sevenoaks Beauty Clinic on Dartford Road also offer Fake Bake treatments and use a three-step formula: polish, tan, moisturise.

Prices are £25 for legs only (30 minutes), £50 for a full-body (60 minutes) and they advise that you wear dark, loose clothing. To book call 01732 779481.

The Queen of self-tans

Beautique in London Road offers the crème de la crème of self-tans: Clarins So Natural Self Tanner for a not-so-royal £30 for a full hour’s treatment, which includes a pampering massage.

To book, call 01732 456151.

Shh... there are also sunbeds

Rather out of favour with a lot of people but if you do want to opt for a 'real' tan then there are options. Tan and Float in Bligh’s Meadow offers ‘high pressure tanning’ in booths to gain natural looking tans.

They say two to three sessions a month are all that’s needed to maintain a tan and courses are available to book.

A single session for 10 minutes costs £18, 12 minutes for £20. Course start at £90. To book, call 01732 456151.
