Did you see the Kent on Sunday front page article about dependence of our food supply on imports - and hence the impact of the volcanic ash crisis?
There is also the threat of rising food prices, as a result of higher cost of the fossil fuels on which far too much of food supply depends. Their cost will rise because (a) the cheap oil is running out, and the laws of supply and demand will push up the price; (b) action to avert dangerous climate change must include imposing tax on aviation and shipping fuel.
If you are concerned about whether there will be enough food in future, come and listen to Patrick Holden, the Director of the Soil Association, who will speak on "Food supply in the 21st century". Wednesday 12 May at the Stag main theatre in Sevenoaks, doors open 7pm: free entry, no ticket needed, bar available. Transition Town Sevenoaks event.
