I think it's unrealistic to expect a major department store to open up in a small town, but it would be great if we could have a bit more diversity, some unique shops, a better offering of clothes shops - especially kids' and men's!
What else would you like besides a big store like John Lewis or M&S?

Yeah, I've seen them, it's a valiant effort and I really hope it helps. Personally, I think the parking charges are what put a heck of a lot of people off, and you couldn't really come here to do serious shopping, just bits and pieces. It's a shame. Not having somewhere good for kids to spend their pocket money (i.e. no serious contender to replace Woolies) is what puts me off taking the kids into town on Saturday too.

If Sevenoaks residents want decent shops to set up and stay in the town they need to support them when they do start up.
Where do you buy your meat? Vegetables? Stationery? Clothes? How much of what you buy comes from the town?
Lorimers in Orpington has been closed last week due to lack of trade. They spent the last couple of weeks being told "What do you mean you are closing? Where will we buy our Toys, Stationery, etc?" Well, if they had been supporting it there it wouldn't be a need for it to close!
Which products do you want to be sold in Sevenoaks? What is missing?
(Holly, totally agree with you about parking. But a place for the kids to spend their pocket money - Try the aforementioned Lorimers!)

That's true, we do take them in Lorimers when we go to town on a Saturday! :)

I agree about the parking charges in the town they are high, however i don't see the 4x4 drivers complaining about that.
Whilst it is nice to see shops signing up to the loyalty card scheme i do not see any of the larger stores in the town joining up.
If you look on any commercial lettings web site for sevenoaks you will see all the retail units up for rent.
Julian graves have instructed to dispose of their lease so that will be another shop empty. Rent for some of these units is over the top.
As for Lorimers I popped into the sevenoaks store the other day. The placed looked like it was closing down.
How long will it be until the stag in sevenoaks will close again.
Wednesday is the usual sevenoaks so called market situated by the bus stop, due to lack of support its almost not worth it.
The problem is also the two tear council. The town council can't do anything unless they get the ok from the district council. Then there are the NIMBYS.
NOT IN MY BACK YARD SOCIETY.
Sevenoaks needs to change its not a village lets make it a town work coming to, to shop and to work.
