More waste is generated at Christmas than at any time of year but Sevenoaks District Council aims to help with their free Garden Waste Collection service.
Trees with a trunk of up to 89mm (3.5") in diameter can be collected by the service, which ensures all the trees are turned into environmentally friendly compost.
Residents should simply put their tree by the boundary of their property, where they would put their refuse or recycling sacks, the night before the Council's Garden Waste Collection service takes place in their road.
Residents should remove all decorations from their tree before putting it out for recycling as trees will not be taken if they are still decorated.
Sevenoaks District Council's Member for the Cleaner and Greener Environment Cllr Avril Hunter says, "We are pleased to be offering this service throughout January for free to encourage residents to recycle their trees after they have enjoyed them over Christmas."
Residents with a Christmas tree with a trunk exceeding 89mm can recycle this at one of Kent County Council's Household Waste Recycling sites.
Details of collection times for specific roads can be found by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 01732 227000
