Sevenoaks District Council has struck a new agreement with West Kent Housing to work on community safety and development projects.

Both bodies already work closely together to provide housing and support for vulnerable people to enable them to stay in their homes.

This latest agreement includes a commitment from the council to earmark £250,000 a year for disabled facility grants for West Kent tenants and a graffiti removal service.

Both organisations work with the police and others to help keep tenants safe and this includes support for people suffering from domestic abuse.

Among the services West Kent has committed to provide are accommodation for young people, the homeless and people fleeing abuse and there are also young people's activities.

Robin Hales, Sevenoaks District Council's chief executive, said: "This is a valued key partnership for the council, which helps us deliver priorities for housing whilst supporting our local community.

"This agreement shows how well we work together to develop excellent housing services tailored to our residents' needs and to make the very best use of our resources."

Frank Czarnowski, West Kent's chief executive, added: "As well as housing services, our partnership includes working together on community safety and community development projects that benefit both younger and older people in the district."

The one-year agreement began on November 15.
