Sevenoaks hit by snowfall: Could more be on the way?

Sevenoaks was hit by snowfall overnight - with many of our parks and roads covered with a fine film of the white stuff. 

And the winter weather looks like it might be here to stay, for at least a few days, as forecasters predict there will be more to come.

They have issued severe weather warnings for most of the UK and by late afternoon a large band of snow will run from eastern Scotland.

It will come down through eastern and central England and into London, causing rush hour chaos.  Then it is expected to hit Kent tonight.

Greg Dewhurst from the Met Office said: "It certainly looks like most places will see rain as we go into this afternoon and into the evening.

"There's a low risk that the rain will turn to sleet and possibly into snow as we head into Tuesday morning."

This bad weather could be the start of at least three weeks of freezing conditions to sit over the UK, as Britain is likely to be colder than Lapland by the middle of the week.

Temperatures could hit -14 this week in Britain's coldest parts, while Utsjoki, in the Finnish part of Lapland, will be at around -5.

The Met Office says its 'cold weather action' warning is at level three today - just short of a national emergency.

Despite this snowfall, however, Kent Police said there were no significant problems on any of the roads.

The RAC and AA has warned drivers, though, to still plan journeys and take precautions.

And Southeastern trains looks like it has not yet succumbed to 'the wrong kind of snow' with only minor delays reported on some services.

Schools in the area have not been forced to close either.
