As we saw with the suspected brothel in Bradbourne Road last year tenants aren't always what they seem. In fact, privately-rented property can be used  by some criminals as a cover for certain types of criminal activity.

Landlords can find out what they can do to protect their property by attending the West Kent Landlords' Forum being hosted by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council on Monday, 23 May.

The Forum will look at why the sector is a magnet for certain types of crime; the rising number of privately rented homes being used as cannabis factories; how to avoid becoming a victim of crime and what to do if you suspect criminal activity is taking place in your properties.

Additional presentations will focus on how to deal with excess cold; government proposals for improving energy efficiency and the schemes available to help, and accreditation schemes for private landlords.

The event is organised by the West Kent Landlords Partnership and speakers at the event will be from Kent Police, the National Landlords Association and the National Energy Advice Service.

To book a place please contact sophie.marsh@tunbridgewells.gov.uk or call 01892 554241.
