Heads to discuss grammar school

A SENIOR councillor is to meet with head teachers of schools across West Kent to discuss a plan for a new grammar school in Sevenoaks.
More than 1,500 people have signed a petition for a grammar school in the town.
One of their key arguments for the new facility is that 1,100 pupils – including those from Westerham, Sundridge and Brasted – who have passed the 11-plus travel outside of Sevenoaks every day to get to selective schools in Tonbridge and Tunbridge Wells.
The petition has triggered a debate which will take place at Kent County Council on March 29.
In November, the Government introduced a legal change which allows existing grammar schools to expand, meaning a Sevenoaks grammar school would be an annex of an existing one in Tunbridge Wells or Tonbridge and would accept both sexes.

Surely we do - there are always children who pass the 11 plus who don't get a grammar place, that's not fair. However, stopping children from out of Kent taking up Kent places would be a simpler option, perhaps?
