UNIVERSITY OF KENT 5

CHIPSTEAD 0

Kent County Division 1

A FOUR-goal first-half mauling was exactly what Chipstead deserved from a dire, error-ridden performance.

A second-half sending off and a late penalty set the seal on a miserable afternoon for the village side.

Notorious for starting slowly, Chipstead found themselves two goals down within the opening seven minutes.

Despite the poor start, Chipstead did manage to open up the University defence, Herve Zaha's pace twice taking him clear, only for him to fail with his final finish.

On the other hand, the hosts looked dangerous every time they attacked and it was no more than they deserved when they added another couple of goals prior to the interval.

Chipstead were slightly better after the break with the slope and wind in their favour, but sadly lacked the creativity or cutting edge to trouble the hosts.

To wrap up a wretched afternoon for the visitors, James Porter was uncharacteristically dismissed for a second yellow card in contesting a refereeing decision, and a mistimed tackle late on led to the University netting a fifth from the spot.

On Saturday, Chipstead are away once again, this time to AFC Sevenoaks in a league encounter (kick-off 2.45pm).

CHIPSTEAD RESERVES 7

GREENWAYS RESERVES 4

Reserve Division West

CHIPSTEAD Reserves ended their eight-match losing streak with a superb display, trouncing title-challengers Greenways Reserves by 7-4 on Saturday.

Leading the way with hat-tricks were youngster Joffie Shea and veteran Michael Sterling, making a rare appearance for his former club.

Although Chipstead started brightly, it was Greenways who opened the scoring on 10 minutes.

Shea levelled midway through the half with a terrific strike from 25 yards and he doubled his tally before the break, following a good move down the left flank.

The village side continued in the same vein after the break, with Sterling netting a double from close range.

Although the visitors pulled one back, Shea cut in from the left to complete his hat-trick and net his side's fifth.

Shea and Josh Tunstill then combined to set up Freddie Dillon for the sixth, followed by the seventh from Sterling, which completed his hat-trick.

With the hosts 7-2 ahead, complacency set in near the end, letting Greenways score two late goals.

The reserves will look to continue their good form when they face Stansfeld O and B Reserves in a league fixture (kick-off 2.45pm), on Saturday.
