The property, which once belonged to the Tudor dynasty, formed the backdrop to a discussion on Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream.
Two University College of London academics, Lucy Powell and Helen Hackett, also discussed the visit of Elizabeth I to Knole in 1573 and some of the former inhabitants of the National Trust house.
The programme, one of a five-part series, is due to be broadcast this spring.
A three-part TV series on the history of the heritage movement, with the working title of The Battle for Britain's Past, is due to go out in March on BBC Four.
Some of this was filmed late last year at Knole, one of the key acquisitions for the National Trust after the Second World War.
